Gemma - Speech Language Pathologist and Director of Chatter and Chew

Gemma Cameron is an experienced Speech Pathologist with a special interest in Paediatric Disability, Early Intervention, Paediatric Feeding and Mealtimes, and Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC).

Gemma’s passion lies in functional communication skills, parent training, increasing independent communication capacity, ensuring that a client’s communication supports their connection with others, and increasing an individuals capacity to enjoy and thrive at mealtimes.

Gemma is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP MSPA), registered with Speech Pathology Australia.

Gemma has a Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) from The University of Newcastle and a Bachelor of Nursing from Queensland University of Technology. She is currently studying her Masters in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

Gemma has undergone further training in:

  • Neuro Affirming Practice

  • Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OM) : The aim of OM is to re-establish the function and tone of the face, tongue, jaw and neck muscles to address disorders which directly impact speech, dentition, chewing, swallowing, proper tongue positioning and nasal breathing.

  • Hanen Certified Speech Pathologist (More Than Words): Parent training to support the communication skills of children with ASD/Social Communication difficulties.

  • Get Permission Approach (feeding and mealtimes)

  • SOS Approach (Sequential Oral Sensory) to Feeding

  • Movement for Communications training (Alternative Access to AAC)

  • Sounds~Write Training (Evidence Based, Synthetic Phonics Program)

  • Read and Grow (Early Literacy Program)

  • Extra feeding training with Queensland Children’s Hospital

  • Infant Feeding Foundations

  • Cervical Auscultation training

  • Relationship Based Therapy Approached (PlayConnect)

Gemma also has a range of experience with different communication systems, both high and low tech, as well as alternative access. Alternative access can include switch access, eye gaze and combined approaches.
